1. निश्चयवाद (Determinism) इसे निश्चयवाद (Determinism) अथवा पर्यावरणीय निश्चयवाद (Environmentalism) भी कहते हैं। इस विचारधारा के अनुसार मनुष्य प्रकृति का दास है। पर्यावरण सर्वशक्तिमान है और मानवीय क्रियाकलापों को पूर्णतया नियंत्रित करता है। प्राकृतिक शक्तियों के सामने मानव तुच्छ, महत्वहीन एवं निष्क्रिय होता है। विश्व के अलग-अलग भागों में मानव के व्यवहार में अंतर प्रकृति में पाए गए अंतर के अनुसार होता है। जैसे कांगो बेसिन के पिग्मी, कालाहारी के बुशमैन, उत्तरी ध्रुवीय क्षेत्र के एस्किमो, मध्य एशिया के खिरगिज़ लोगों का जीवन एक दूसरे से बिल्कुल भिन्न है और प्राकृतिक शक्तियों द्वारा पूर्णतया नियंत्रित है। भूगोल में पर्यावरणीय निश्चयवाद की विचारधारा प्रारंभिक काल से चली आ रही है और यह किसी न किसी रूप में द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध तक चलती रही। किंतु इस विचारधारा को व्यापक रूप जर्मन भूगोलवेत्ता द्वारा दिया गया। हिप्पोक्रेट्स, स्ट्रेबो, मोंटेस्क्यु, बोडिन, इमैनुअल कांट, एलेग्जेंडर बोन हैंबोल्ट, कार्ल रीटर, चार्ल्स डार्विन, फ्रेडरिक रैटजेल, कुमारी चर्चिल सैंपल, डेमोलिन, एल्सवर्थ हटिंगटन

In O. Henry ’s most famous story “ The Gift of the Magi ,” Della is determined to give her husband a Christmas gift. In order to afford the fob for her husband's watch, she sells her long, beautiful hair, only to learn that he has sold his beloved watch to buy her a set of combs. “ The Gift of the Magi ” summary key points: Della Young decides to sell her beautiful hair to buy a watch fob for her husband’s beloved watch. When Jim comes home, he is saddened and surprised to see Della’s beautiful hair missing. He offers her his gift: bejeweled combs that she no longer needs. Della offers her gift to Jim . He looks at her and admits that he has sold his watch to buy her the combs. The two are overcome with love as they realize they have sacrificed their most prized possessions for one another.

Union Government releases a new four-colour classification scheme for industries based on their pollution potential

Union Government has released a new  four-colour classification  scheme for industries based on their pollution potential. The four-colour classification scheme of industrial sectors based on the  Pollution Index  (PI) . Pollution Index  is a function of the (i) Emissions (air pollutants) (ii) Effluents (water pollutants) (iii) hazardous wastes generated and (iv) Consumption of resources. Under the new categorisation system, industries which pollute the most have been put in the  red category  while the moderately polluting units are classified in  orange category . Industries that have a significantly low  polluton  load have been placed in the  green category  while those that operate without causing any pollution have been categorised in  white category . Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) compares various alternatives for a project and seeks to identify the one which represents the best combination of economic and environmental costs and benefits.
